Director of Education

We’re seeking an outstanding leader to serve as The Possible Project’s (TPP) Director of Education. The Director of Education will be responsible for leading the strategic implementation of TPP program model across two sites; ensuring all students receive a high quality learning experience.

For the past seven years, The Possible Project (TPP) has designed, implemented, assessed and refined a model for afterschool programming that provides high school students with an opportunity to: a) create and take products to market, b) partner with local businesses for real-work design and business operations projects, c) provide students with access to industry and professional mentors who can help hone their skills and grow their access to networks of supportive adults, and d) provide pathways counseling for post secondary opportunities.

Through our program, students have access to dream up, design and create real products for sale in our cutting edge Makerspace and learn job-readiness skills working in TPP’s existing businesses: Made Possible and We Sell Possible.

Our impact stretches beyond the skills learned by the students who participate; we use entrepreneurship as a mechanism for bolstering creativity, fostering perseverance, harnessing optimism and revealing the possible. The Possible Project places importance on diverse perspectives and understands that they are critical to our success. As such, we seek these perspectives in hiring and decision-making.


As the Director of Education, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of our programs; ensuring that students have a high quality afterschool experience at our sites in Boston and Cambridge. To best provide students with an authentic hands on learning experience, you will lead our team of educators to deliver integrated multiple program components, engage and support volunteers, and scaffold partnerships with schools. You’ll use your experience working with opportunity youth, connections to the communities we serve and knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy and strong instructional practices to help foster an asset based, student centered, learning environment that prepares students for success in college and/or careers.


As the Director of Education you will be responsible for the following threads of work:

  • Staff Leadership
    • Supervise and coach Entrepreneurship Education Manager, Site and Makerspace Education Coordinators, and Associates
    • Define and communicate expectations for staff delivering instruction
    • Observe and monitor the quality of instructional delivery
    • Define performance and professional development goals (and facilitate associated trainings and continuing education) for members of the education team
    • Support educators in their development of asset based partnerships with schools and the community at large
    • Serve as a mentor who can model professionalism, student centered instructional practice, student behavior management and cultural competency for organizational staff
    • Recruit, interview, select and onboard new members of the education team
    • Identify and nurture development of staff to leverage their strengths and help them grow personally and professionally
    • Support data collection and evaluation efforts, ensuring educators submit accurate data on time
  • Program Leadership
    • Collaborate with team leaders to ensure strategic implementation of curricula, making necessary and appropriate adjustments to accommodate the relevant learning needs of student cohorts
    • Design, develop, and deliver (or outsource) trainings aligned with the professional development goals of the team
    • Implement and refine observation protocols that provide feedback to educators on the quality of instructional delivery and the learning experience fostered for students
    • Foster a collaborative culture through which best practices and learnings are shared and insights can be collected to help to inform decision-making at the executive level
    • Partner with the development team to attract, recruit and train volunteers for pitch panels and other events/program components
    • Drive the creation and maintenance of operational systems that support high quality instruction and overall student engagement and experience
    • Lead efforts to coordinate needed student interventions, drawing from resources available at the school and within the community, helping to foster students’ safety and social, emotional well-being
  • Partnership Management
    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with the key constituents of the program (including volunteers, students, parents, teachers, principals, DOE staff, community members, donors and board members) and with wrap-around service organizations
    • Assist the executive team with plans for site expansion and/or growth to new cities
    • With support from the Chief of Staff, ensure that all sites are compliant with applicable regulations related to student programming; including those imposed by the Department of Education and the Department of Health
    • Support the collection of data and other relevant information about student performance from school and district sources

  • 7+ years of significant professional experience leading, managing, and developing educators
  • Successful track record of strategic leadership, oversight and day-to-day management of program implementation
  • Ability to create, leverage and foster networks and resources that support the multi-faceted components of TPP program and add value to educators’ and students’ growth and development
  • Excellent problem-solving, operational, and communication skills
  • Interest in the fast-paced, changing environment of a growing organization
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and ability to build culture
  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems putting forward solutions that are creative, innovative, and flexible
  • Proactive attitude, out of the box thinking, good sense of humor and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Palpable passion to serve high school students, belief in the potential of what they can achieve
  • Belief in the power of diversity and excitement for working in a diverse culture and on diverse teams
  • Candidates who are bilingual and reflect the communities TPP is serving are strongly preferred
