Our talent team is responsible for identifying, developing and supporting the staff and AmeriCorps Service Members whose skills, perseverance and creativity enable Citizen Schools to impact the lives of students across the country.

As a Talent Business Partner (TBP), you’ll work as a member of the Talent Team reporting directly to the COO with close coordination with your regional Executive Director. You’ll serve as a member of the local leadership team and provide coaching to regional leaders in the areas of hiring and workforce planning, performance management and reporting, leadership development, and compliance, recording keeping and HR best practices. Your work will be instrumental to our ability to increase the diversity of our teams and achieve the vibrant culture of equity and inclusion needed to best deliver on our commitment to end the opportunity gap existing in communities nationwide.

We’ve implemented the role of TBP as an new approach to delivering Talent and HR services to our employees and managers. In this role you will actively participate in a professional community composed of TBPs from our other regions, while remaining connected on a day-to-day basis to the needs of your local region. In this way, we are able to achieve the quality and efficiency benefits of centralizing core personnel functions, such as performance reviews and new hire processing, while also empowering regional leaders to create custom solutions to local challenges.

Your 5+ years of experience in recruitment and human resources will prepare you for this role as advocate, coach, mentor and local compliance officer. Your certification from the HRCI or SHRM demonstrates that you know the law and best practices, but it is your creativity, ability to build high quality relationships, mission-fit and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion that will position you for success in the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Organizational Development and Workforce Planning:

  • Develop and nurture high quality relationships with regional leaders, members of staff and AmeriCorps service members that foster safety, honesty and open dialogue
  • Advise regional leaders on succession planning and team structure through day-to-day coaching and facilitation of workforce planning exercises
  • Lead local compensation reviews, the workforce components of annual planning and the process to determine merit increases at the end of each fiscal year
  • Partner with local leaders to develop career pathways for high potential employees that leverage the resources provided by the national network team for skills and mindset development
  • Author performance improvement plans (PIPs) and coaching plans that reflect the performance challenges identified by managers
  • Support managers with the delivery of PIPs, coaching plans and disciplinary interventions that are both suited to purpose and compliant with law
  • Review and approve manager requests for disciplinary action and/or termination of employment in concern with executive leadership

Full-Cycle Recruitment and Partnership Building:

  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process including onsite interviews and assessments
  • Create job descriptions for open positions that are correctly mapped to the organizational structure and compensation bands
  • Identify, cultivate and steward high quality relationships with colleges and institutions that can serve as thought partners and/or sources of diverse pipelines of talent
  • Train local hiring managers and interviewers on hiring process, interview practices and ways to minimize bias in the selection of high quality applicants

Candidate Attraction, Selection, and Experience:

  • Develop clear, well-defined, concise, and accessible job advertisements
  • Identify and cultivate high quality pipelines of diverse applicants for local roles by using a combination of direct outreach, advertising and on-campus recruitment
  • Craft competency-based interview guides and rubrics that assess skills, experience and mindset
  • Deliver exceptional candidate experience by responding to all applications in a timely manner and providing thoughtful feedback at each stage of the interview process
  • Partner with hiring managers to make fair hiring decisions that are grounded in the competencies identified as key to success in the role and on the regional team

Employee Relations:

  • Actively promote the organization’s culture of diversity, equity and inclusion through your work and day-to-day behaviors
  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees and service members who wish to discuss job satisfaction, relationships with colleagues, conflicts with management and/or personal concerns that impact their performance and quality of life
  • Evaluate and resolve human relations and labor relation issues, escalating serious compliance, safety or ethics concerns to both local and national leadership
  • Participate in quarterly reviews of organizational policies and practices
  • Answer compensation and benefit questions, maintain accurate payroll and benefits documentation and support local communication of open enrollment and benefit changes
  • Manage FMLA and leave requests including gathering documentation and paperwork
  • Manage safety and workers’ compensation incident reporting, follow up and support for employees sustaining workplace injuries/illness
  • Help coordinate and manage quarterly performance conversations and the process by which individual employees set goals mapped to organizational priorities
  • Manage the onboarding of new, transferring and promoted employees and service members            

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • SHRM or HRCI certification
  • 5+ years of experience in the HR or Talent field
  • Comprehensive understanding of employment and labor regulations federally and a keen familiarity the local and state laws in markets in which you are responsible for managing
  • Impeccable ethics & judgment in maintaining highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with a diverse set of colleagues ranging from AmeriCorps service members to Executive Directors and Vice Presidents
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to leverage data and observation to inform decision making
  • Proficiency in use of systems, tools and processes including comfort with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and HRIS systems
  • Proactive attitude, out of the box thinking, good sense of humor and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
