Manager of Development and Special Initiatives

Reporting to the Co-Founder and CEO, the Manager of Development and Special Initiatives will be a key partner with the CEO in managing cultivation of and communication with current and new CFSI philanthropic supporters while also supporting and leading on various special initiatives, including college partner outreach, research and preparation of data-driven presentations to make the case for CFSI, board meeting preparation, and research and due diligence related to potential new organizational initiatives.  This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is interested in building their organizational development and leadership skills while contributing to a fast-growing organization trying to cultivate a more equitable, inclusive, and effective culture while advancing its mission of “educating and inspiring the next generation of problem solvers.”

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Philanthropy (~35% time):  Support CEO in meeting or exceeding all philanthropy goals ($1.2 million in FY22 and growing modestly in the next few years), with support, in particular, of grant writing and reporting and supporting high-impact cultivation events; 

Board Meeting Prep and Board and Advisory Board Support (15% time): Lead on preparation of ~100 page board book before each of three annual meetings and support communication with current and prospective board members and advisory board members;

College Partnership Development (15% time): Support the CEO, the Director of Student Recruitment and College Partnerships, and an external consultant in securing additional college partnerships and deepening existing relationships with a particular focus on developing slide decks that make the case for SITC at particular colleges

Building our Brand through Data Analysis and data-based storytelling (15% time):  Support CEO in doing the research to inform blogs, articles, and speeches/panel presentations that share the CFSI story and data in compelling ways; Work cross-functionally with Director of Finance and Operations, the operations team, and program team to maximize data analysis as a tool for learning as well as brand-building;

Other Special Initiatives (15% time): Research potential new organizational initiatives such as deeper alumni support, potential Semester in the City expansion sites, the potential of a CFSI grad school, convening of conferences or other gatherings to promote work-based learning and college to career pathways in the social impact sector, etc;  

Administrative Support (5% time): Provide special assistance (technology questions, reimbursements, etc) to the CEO 

QUALIFICATIONS & MINDSET

  • 3+ years of professional experience, ideally including 2+ years of development or sales experience;
  • Outstanding writing skills as well as proficiency in reviewing data and building data-based presentations using PowerPoint and other platforms;
  • Strong communication skills and a proven ability to build partnerships and relationships with institutions and individuals, including high net worth individuals;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; Eagerness to work towards closing the opportunity gap and recruiting a pipeline of students from all backgrounds 
  • An ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people and can interrelate and operate effectively with colleagues in a collegial, yet demanding, work environment
  • Embodiment of CFSI’s core values of an optimistic mindset, curiosity, teamwork, purposeful effort, and kindness and generosity

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Salary commensurate with experience, likely in the $50,000 to $55,000 range
  • Health benefits with 80% covered by CfSI and 20% covered by the employee;
  • Commuting Reimbursements (up to $45/month);
  • Telecommunications reimbursement (up to $100/month);
  • 21 vacation/personal days plus 13 organizational holiday days per year;
  • Access to regular and ongoing feedback and professional development opportunities internally and ability to leverage organizational resources to seek additional development opportunities externally.

College for Social Innovation (CFSI) brings together colleges and social sector organizations to create fully-credited experiential learning opportunities that are meaningful, accessible, and life-changing. Our college students, referred to as Social Innovation Fellows, build skills, a digital portfolio, and a professional network that helps to position them to become the next generation of problem solvers for humanity’s tough challenges. Students are placed in a semester-long internship (400 hours) and also take skill-building and reflection classes twice a week as part of a diverse “Semester in the City” cohort.

College for Social Innovation is now completing a two-year pilot of its Semester in the City program, having enrolled almost 100 students from six colleges and universities and achieved strong initial results. We are looking to further build an innovative and unique educational experience that can add value for students and their home colleges while building a bigger, better, and more diverse talent pipeline for the social sector.

In the next three to five years, we look to create a nationally recognized curriculum and instructional delivery model that generates strong results while growing to serve 350+ students per year and preparing for potential growth beyond Boston. Ultimately, we aim to build a movement to make it common for millions of college students -- representing the full diversity of the nation -- to gain access to careers in the fast-growing social sector. During their Semester in the City, Fellows participate in well-structured and academically-accredited internships where they learn from real-world experiences, build relationships with mentors, and build personal, professional and academic skills.
