Manager of Student Recruitment

Reporting to the Director of Admissions, Recruitment, and College Partnerships, the Manager of Student Recruitment plays a critical role in reaching College for Social Innovation’s (CFSI) exciting and ambitious student enrollment goals. The Manager will participate in CFSI’s strategic management of the student recruitment, admissions, and enrollment processes, specifically overseeing a portfolio of college and university partnerships.

Leveraging a wide spectrum of recruitment strategies, the Manager will work to develop and implement broad-based in-person and virtual recruitment strategies such as attending college fairs and hosting campus-wide information sessions, while also working to establish deep interpersonal relationships with students and on-campus advocates, such as professors, deans and student groups, to promote our credit-bearing internships and education program. 

As part of a growing, entrepreneurial organization, this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional looking to further deepen skills in the areas of recruitment strategy and implementation, external relationship management, and the development of scalable systems for growth. Frequent travel to college campuses and occasional evening work will be required. 



College Recruitment Strategy & Execution

  • Devise and implement a strategy to meet the student recruitment and enrollment goals at a designated portfolio of 5-7 colleges and universities
  • Collaborate with university partners to source talented and qualified students and future agents of change to participate in the Semester in the City (SITC) program
  • Build and manage relationships with key individuals and groups on each campus, including faculty, staff, and students; such as professors, deans, advisors, career service representatives, student leaders, key student groups and more who will help to build brand awareness and drive student interest in SITC
  • Design, organize, and implement recruitment events (information sessions, panels, classroom presentations, prospect meetings and more) and powerfully represent CFSI at university-sponsored events such as career fairs, club and department meetings, and more
  • Involve current fellows and alumni in the planning and execution of recruitment campaigns; Manage 1-2 part-time alumni Student Recruitment Ambassadors per campus
  • In partnership with the CFSI team and the Marketing team, create and drive on-campus and web-based marketing campaigns 
  • Coordinate personal travel to and within designated campuses (utilizing public transportation and Zipcar as needed)

Admissions and Enrollment

  • Support student communication from initial introduction to SITC through the application, admissions, and enrollment processes
  • Support the Associate Director of Admissions and Recruitment and Director of Experiential Learning in the process of making mutually beneficial matches between enrolled students and internship placement sites
  • Support “anti-melt” efforts to improve retention/yield across the enrollment process
  • Conduct research on best practices from peer organizations to continuously improve and innovate upon our recruitment and outreach practices


Data Analysis and Ongoing Strategy Development

  • Collect and report on data that offers insight into successes, challenges, and potential adaptations to recruitment strategies
  • Analyze efficacy of recruitment strategies at a designated portfolio of campuses and adjust, refine and revise strategies as needed
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of the campaign progress  and candidate lifecycle through use of relevant databases and tracking systems
  • Actively participate and occasional lead the CFSI recruitment team meetings and specialized strategy sessions to exchange best practices and to identify points of collaboration
  • Manage and lead special projects related to codification of best practices and knowledge capture



  • 4+ years of successful recruitment or sales experience at a mission-driven organization, or similar relevant experience
  • A results orientation with a demonstrated ability to maintain a commitment to goals in the face of obstacles
  • A proven track record of developing, maintaining, and strengthening partnerships with others inside and outside the organization. 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with an engaging communication style
  • A meticulous and innovative approach to building systems; a knack for data analysis and improving processes
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; Eagerness to work towards closing the opportunity gap and recruiting a pipeline of students from all backgrounds 
  • An ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people and can interrelate and operate effectively with colleagues in a collegial, yet demanding, work environment

  • A valid driver’s license; Travel to college campuses throughout New England will be required; Access to a Zipcar account will be provided



  • Salary commensurate with experience; likely $50,000 - $55,000
  • Health benefits with 80% covered by CfSI and 20% covered by the employee;
  • Commuting Reimbursements (up to $45/month);
  • Telecommunications reimbursement (up to $100/month);
  • 21 vacation/personal days plus 13 organizational holiday days per year;
  • Access to regular and ongoing feedback and professional development opportunities internally and ability to leverage organizational resources to seek additional development opportunities externally.

College for Social Innovation (CFSI) brings together colleges and social sector organizations to create fully-credited experiential learning opportunities that are meaningful, accessible, and life-changing. Our college students, referred to as Social Innovation Fellows, build skills, a digital portfolio, and a professional network that helps to position them to become the next generation of problem solvers for humanity’s tough challenges. Students are placed in a semester-long internship (400 hours) and also take skill-building and reflection classes twice a week as part of a diverse “Semester in the City” cohort.

College for Social Innovation is now completing a two-year pilot of its Semester in the City program, having enrolled almost 100 students from six colleges and universities and achieved strong initial results. We are looking to further build an innovative and unique educational experience that can add value for students and their home colleges while building a bigger, better, and more diverse talent pipeline for the social sector.

In the next three to five years, we look to create a nationally recognized curriculum and instructional delivery model that generates strong results while growing to serve 350+ students per year and preparing for potential growth beyond Boston. Ultimately, we aim to build a movement to make it common for millions of college students -- representing the full diversity of the nation -- to gain access to careers in the fast-growing social sector. During their Semester in the City, Fellows participate in well-structured and academically-accredited internships where they learn from real-world experiences, build relationships with mentors, and build personal, professional and academic skills.
