Senior Marketing Advisor (Part-time)

Reporting to the Director of Admissions, Recruitment, and College Partnerships, the Senior Marketing Advisor plays a critical role in reaching College for Social Innovation’s (CFSI) exciting and ambitious goals for expansion. The Advisor will provide strategic guidance on a number of key marketing, communications, and branding initiatives; while providing coaching and support to our Manager of Marketing and Communications. This position is intended to be a contract hire for 4-6 hours per week, potentially developing into a full time role in the next 1-2 years.

Leveraging a wide spectrum of marketing strategies, the Advisor will innovate and refine existing systems and processes to support our broad-based marketing goals. Working closely with the Manager of Marketing, and occasionally acting as consultant to the Director of Admissions, Recruitment, and College Partnerships and the CEO, the Advisor will help prioritize and advance key initiatives to grow our reach and improve our brand.

As part of a growing, entrepreneurial organization currently lacking senior leadership in Marketing and Communications, this is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned professional with an eye for developing and implementing strategy, coaching and developing young talent, and contributing to our growth and success.



Marketing Operations -- primary focus for first 3 months

  • Work with Manager of Marketing to co-design marketing and communications workflows, systems, and processes;
  • Consult on prioritization of projects and initiatives, including social media campaigns, collateral development;
  • Provide critical feedback on collateral and advise on best practices;
  • This aspect will be a significant proportion of the role early on as systems are being designed, but mentorship and feedback will be ongoing throughout contract

Strategic Guidance -- primary focus for third through sixth months

  • Help the Manager of Marketing codify a comprehensive marketing strategy that helps CFSI achieve its growth and impact goals over the next 3-4 years;
  • Strengthen our existing Student Recruitment marketing strategy; 
  • Develop our “b2b” marketing and communications strategy, supporting the cultivation of external partners and donors;
  • Advise on navigating organizational dynamics in rolling out new strategies and initiatives;

Branding Strategy -- focus after six months

  • Advise on and help coach around roll-out of a small number of priority strategies to further build CFSI’s brand and increase brand recognition;
  • Advocate for brand strategy and cohesion internally, serving as liaison to the Senior Leadership Team on budget/brand/communications cohesion

Relationship Development -- ongoing

  • Help cultivate pro-bono relationships to get top creative talent from Boston or national firms committed to helping CFSI develop and implement its marketing strategy;
  • Convene leaders in college and college-age program marketing and source best practices from them that can be adapted for CFSI. 



  • 8-10+ years of marketing management experience
  • A results orientation with a demonstrated ability to maintain a commitment to goals in the face of obstacles
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing comprehensive marketing strategies, ideally in a mission-based organization and particularly with a focus on marketing to diverse Gen Z audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and racial equity
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching high potential marketing professionals
  • Flexible availability during normal business hours

  • Hourly rate commensurate with experience; likely ranging between $40 - $50 per hour
  • Telecommunications reimbursement (up to $15/month);
  • Access to regular and ongoing feedback and professional development opportunities internally and ability to leverage organizational resources to seek additional development opportunities externally.

College for Social Innovation (CFSI) brings together colleges and social sector organizations to create fully-credited experiential learning opportunities that are meaningful, accessible, and life-changing. Our college students, referred to as Social Innovation Fellows, build skills, a digital portfolio, and a professional network that helps to position them to become the next generation of problem solvers for humanity’s tough challenges. Students are placed in a semester-long internship (400 hours) and also take skill-building and reflection classes twice a week as part of a diverse “Semester in the City” cohort.

College for Social Innovation is now completing a two-year pilot of its Semester in the City program, having enrolled almost 100 students from six colleges and universities and achieved strong initial results. We are looking to further build an innovative and unique educational experience that can add value for students and their home colleges while building a bigger, better, and more diverse talent pipeline for the social sector.

In the next three to five years, we look to create a nationally recognized curriculum and instructional delivery model that generates strong results while growing to serve 350+ students per year and preparing for potential growth beyond Boston. Ultimately, we aim to build a movement to make it common for millions of college students -- representing the full diversity of the nation -- to gain access to careers in the fast-growing social sector. During their Semester in the City, Fellows participate in well-structured and academically-accredited internships where they learn from real-world experiences, build relationships with mentors, and build personal, professional and academic skills.
