Development Coordinator

THE OPPORTUNITY

At the Social Innovation Forum (SIF), we support the growth and development of nonprofit organizations that drive meaningful change in our community. We accelerate the reach and impact of these organizations through education, engagement, and connections to funders, investors, and volunteers who are ready to provide on-the-ground support and guidance to support progress and sustainability.

The Development Coordinator is a critical member of the SIF team whose work sits at the center of SIF’s efforts to engage a range of supporters in its work. This position plays a key role in keeping the development team organized, aligned, and on track to achieve its fundraising goals. The Development Coordinator reports to the Director of Development and works closely with SIF’s Executive Director, Director of Development, and Donor Engagement Officer. This role is a great opportunity for someone early in their career to develop skills and experience in nonprofit fundraising, database administration, and development event management, while being part of some of the most innovative and exciting social impact work going in greater Boston.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Database Management & Administrative Support (50%)

  • Maintain SIF’s Salesforce constituent database, continually updating records as needed to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Become proficient with SIF’s Salesforce database and support other team members in using the database effectively.
  • Process donations and prepare and send timely acknowledgement letters.
  • Develop and maintain lists and tracking systems as needed to support the organization’s development functions.
  • Support SIF’s Director of Development in managing her development activities, including pro-actively monitoring her calendar and inquiring about follow up steps.
  • Produce regular and as-needed reports and share with team.
  • Conduct research on prospective institutional and individual donors.

 

Fundraising (15%)

  • Track deadlines for prospective and current institutional funders and assist in developing content for grant proposals and reports.
  • Assist in the production of fundraising appeals mailings and email campaigns.

Donor Communications (15%)

  • Assist in the creation of SIF’s development collateral materials, mailings, and email communications, including donor letters.
  • Assemble development collateral packets for all event and meeting attendees.

Development Events (15%)

  • Coordinate event logistics, including pre- and post-event communications, RSVP and attendee tracking, room set up, materials preparation, catering, and technology needs for all development events, including Approach & Impact lunches and site visits from prospective funders.
  • Attend and participate in development events and site visits with prospective funders, as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance and support to SIF team members around development events to ensure consistent approach and execution.

Team Responsibilities (5%)

  • Working within a small, growing, entrepreneurial environment, every staff member is expected to provide support to the broader SIF team as needed.
  • There may be opportunities for the Development Coordinator to supervise and/or mentor interns or co-op students as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS & MINDSET

While there is no perfect resume, we will likely be most interested in your application if you fulfill most or all of the following:

  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills, detail orientation, professionalism, maturity, and discretion.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to see projects through from beginning to end and to efficiently and effectively manage multiple projects/deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to SIF’s mission and values.
  • High comfort level with technology required and experience with donor/CRM databases preferred. Experience with Salesforce for nonprofits highly desired.
  • Comfort with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of email communications tools (Constant Contact) a plus.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work and learn in a small, entrepreneurial, start-up environment.
  • Ability to function both as a part of a team and independently in a growing organization.
  • Strong work ethic and a sense of humor.
  • Due to SIF’s event schedule, a willingness to work some early mornings and evenings is required for this position.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of relevant work experience.
