ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
GLAD provides a supportive and friendly work environment dedicated to groundbreaking achievement for LGBTQ identifying people and people living with HIV. Recent community support projects include maintaining a general COVID-19 resource list and set of FAQs focused on family protections. GLAD is proud of recent victories modernizing family and parentage laws by introducing or passing legislation in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
Other work in progress is focused on passing the Equality Act through a collaborative effort to extend protections of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. GLAD has also deepened and sharpened their focus on racial justice work, including through reforming and dismantling systems that we know disproportionately harm LGBTQ BIPOC, such as the criminal justice, juvenile justice, and child welfare systems. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Development Department supports GLAD’s work by raising money from individual donations, fundraising events, corporate funding, and grants. Fundraising accounts for more than 90% of the revenue driving the organization’s vital work. The Assistant Director of Development will develop and implement strategies to facilitate and grow GLAD’s individual, planned, and corporate giving programs. They will be an externally-facing fundraiser working collaboratively with the Major Gifts Team, senior leadership, development committee, and Board of Directors to foster meaningful relationships with current and prospective donors.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fundraiser committed to GLAD’s mission, to take on an external facing role with an emphasis on donor engagement and moves management. We seek candidates with a depth of experience managing donor relationships in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment. The Assistant Director of Development will have the opportunity to lead young donor engagement and legacy giving initiatives, in addition to stewarding a portfolio of approximately 100 major donors.
This role reports to the Director of Development and supervises the Manager of Individual Giving.
- Assist the Director of Development in setting fundraising priorities, meeting financial goals, and carrying out development objectives and priorities for the entire organization.
- Provide oversight and implementation of strategies to engage, renew, and acquire donors and prospects for Community Giving, Equal Justice Council (major donors), and Legacy Society (planned giving) through in person meetings, events, video chats, direct mail, phone, and email solicitation.
- Manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects—conceiving and implementing tailored, creative and impactful stewardship plans; supporting stewardship efforts by staff, board, and volunteers; soliciting gifts directly and in coordination with other staff, board, and volunteers
- Supervise and mentor the Manager of Individual Giving and partner with other members of the seven person development team to build engagement and stewardship skills across the organization
- Create and maintain relationships with program staff to identify fundraising opportunities.
- Develop and manage expense budgets for all individual giving campaigns and appeals.
- Ensure that internal project management systems run smoothly and efficiently.

QUALIFICATIONS & MINDSET

- At least 5 years of development or related experience with a working knowledge of moves management
- Experience stewarding individual relationships with donors
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Suite and a fundraising database (Salesforce preferable).
- Passion for GLAD’s mission
- The ability to take initiative and follow-through in a fast-paced environment
- Experience as a direct supervisor, ideally in a fundraising role, is desirable but not required
COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & LOCATION
This is a full time exempt position and the salary range is $72,000 - $82,000 annual. GLAD offers a robust benefits package including:

This position is hybrid eligible: a portion of the job duties may be performed remotely, with some in-office (Boston) and in-person work (varied locations for meetings with donors), and attendance at GLAD events required. A flexible work schedule is also possible with the approval of the Director of Development.
