Job Description: Substance Abuse Counselor
Hours: Full Time
Job Site: West Street
Reports To: Clinic Coordinator
Exemption Status: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Substance Abuse Counselor at Bridge is responsible for providing outpatient substance abuse assessment, interventions and case management for youth 18-24 years old who are homeless and actively engaged in substance use. The goal is to build therapeutic rapport with young people who are largely pre-contemplative with regards to their substance use, to help motivate their engagement in healthier behaviors and connect them to further treatment. Great opportunity for a Masters level clinician working towards licensing hours, or a LADC or a clinician interested in pursuing a LADC in the future. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

  • Responsible for intakes, assessments, long and short term counseling, group work, family work, case management, advocacy, referral, crisis intervention, treatment and discharge planning with clients
  • Maintain an active case load of client’s through individual meetings with client and keeping client files updated
  • Share responsibility as a member of the counseling team by responding to drop–in clients, providing survival services to clients, filling in where needed, and any other short term task
  • Assess clients for appropriateness for referrals to other programs within the agency and outside of the agency 

Clinical

  • Participate in regular meetings with other Bridge programs to provide clinical input on clients
  • Co-facilitate groups for clients with staff from other programs within Bridge
  • Act as a clinical liaison between the counseling program and other programs within Bridge 

Administration

  • Maintain on-going contact with outside collateral contacts of clients, and other outside agencies
  • Complete all paperwork in an efficient and timely manner including intake, diagnostic evaluations, progress notes, quarterly treatment plans, referrals, and any other paperwork required in client files
  • Compile statistical information on a monthly basis including data on new clients, ongoing counseling cases, terminations, referrals, phone calls, etc.
  • Conduct case consultations with other client caregivers/referral agencies or institutions as needed
  • Participate in weekly counseling staff meeting
  • Participate in monthly all staff meeting 

Diversity

  • Ensure that all activities, services and programs through Bridge are conducted in a manner that is sensitive to and shows respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity for all Bridge clients 

Other

  • Other related tasks as required/requested
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience working with adolescents and young adults, substance abuse, high risk behaviors, and homelessness
  • Valid driver’s licenses
  • Continuous clean driver’s record
