ABOUT THE POSITION
MENTOR seeks a full-time Director of Development to join a five-person Development team. The Director of Development will play a central role in executing and supporting several aspects of the annual fundraising strategy with a focus on individual giving and including some institutional giving and growth campaigns. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and motivated fundraiser who is eager to learn and excited to help the team grow its annual revenue.
This role reports to the Senior Director of Development and oversees the Individual Giving Manager.
In partnership with the Individual Giving Manager, develop strategies for solicitations that will grow annual individual revenue by $300,000 in the next three years.
Manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors with the capacity to make philanthropic gifts of $10,000 and up.
Serve as Account Manager for approximately five existing corporate or foundation funders at the $100,000+ level.
Identify opportunities to grow the funding partnerships, and write and pitch proposals for continued funding.
Conduct in depth funder research and analysis in markets where MENTOR plans to open Affiliate sites.
Travel to expansion markets as needed for funder and stakeholder meetings or convenings.
Solicit funds from local and national corporations, foundations, individual donors, and government entities to support the opening of new Affiliate sites.
Assist the Senior Director of Development to provide support to the Board of Directors for fundraising initiatives.
Represent the Development Team at conferences or with consulting support to Affiliates as needed.
Manage, develop and support the Individual Giving Manager.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Five years of progressive work experience in fundraising roles
Track record in soliciting and closing five- and six- figure gifts from individuals and/or institutions
Excellent verbal communication, writing and editing skills, experience writing grant proposals is highly desirable
An ability to initiate and enjoy direct communication with donors and potential donors; strong customer-service orientation
Demonstrated knowledge working in donor databases
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Experience as a supervisor of full time employees is highly desirable
Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as independently
A strong connection to MENTOR’s mission and a commitment to continuous learning and progress around diversity, equity and inclusion is highly desirable in all team members at MENTOR
Occasional evenings and travel will be required

Finalists will be selected for a virtual interview day with MENTOR staff. Candidates advanced to offer can expect a holistic reference check process and a background check. Expected start is Fall 2022.
This is a full-time, exempt, remote-eligible role. For candidates who are based where MENTOR National has offices (Boston and Washington D.C.), MENTOR expects all hybrid employees to work in the office 2 days a week or 8 days a month. The Development team is currently fully based at MENTOR’s headquarters in Boston and preference will be given to candidates in the Greater Boston area.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
MENTOR offers a competitive salary for all staff positions. The exact salary that will be offered will be determined based on a consideration of the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and geography and aligned with MENTOR’s compensation policies. Salary range for this role is $78,000-$85,000 and it comes with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, 403B, pre-tax transit, generous vacation, and life and short- and long-term disability insurance.
