Social Enterprise Associate - eCommerce Operations


For the past seven years, The Possible Project (TPP) has built, implemented, assessed and refined a model for after-school programming that provides high school students in Cambridge and Boston with an opportunity to: a) create and take products to market, b) partner with local businesses for real-work design and business operations projects, c) have access to industry and professional mentors who can help hone their skills and grow their access to networks of supportive adults, and d) receive pathways counseling for post-secondary opportunities.

Through our program, students have the opportunity to dream up, design and create real products for sale in our cutting edge Makerspace and to work with real external clients in our two in-house run Social Enterprises: We Sell Possible and Made Possible.  Our impact stretches beyond the skills learned by the students who participate; we use entrepreneurship as a mechanism for bolstering creativity, fostering perseverance, harnessing optimism and revealing the possible.


The Possible Project’s social enterprises have two primary objectives:

  1. Educating and empowering students through authentic work experience
  2. Generating revenue to support programming.

In this role, you will work primarily within We Sell Possible - a TPP social enterprise that empowers young people to develop skills for lifelong success by working in a growing corporate electronics resale business. Our We Sell Possible students learn how to take used electronics (donated by our corporate partners) and give them new life by selling them through online marketplaces such as eBay.

As we look ahead to the future and our ambitious expansion plan, we are seeking a Social Enterprise Associate - eCommerce Operations to join our growing, entrepreneurial TPP Enterprises (TPPE) team. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the business operations of We Sell Possible, helping the team to run our growing ecommerce business to meet financial and other goals.

Specifically, you will help us:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of our e-commerce business, including inventory management, sales and listing, customer service, and shipping and
  • Participate in day-to-day programming as part of our TPPE program team.

You will help shape the overall TPPE program design and act as a supervisor/mentor for our enthusiastic and inspiring high school students across our sites in Cambridge and Boston.


Business Operations (approx. 60%): You will support the successful operation and management of our online sales channels to achieve business and organizational goals. As part of this, you will take on tasks including:

  • Manage ecommerce marketplaces: Manage inventory and accounts on our online marketplaces (eBay, with additional marketplaces to be added during 2019).
  • Business operations & customer service: Support all business operations and customer service related activities including inventory management, responding to customers, and maintaining exceptional customer service standards across all sales platforms.
  • Order processing: You will oversee order processing, including the timely and accurate packing and shipping of all items sold through our sales channels.
  • Product acquisition & inventory management: Support the collection, intake, and management of all products secured through our We Sell Possible donation drives and product acquisition channels.
  • Business systems & processes: Help us use, develop, and refine business systems, including for donation intake and inventory management.
  • Business development & marketing: Help us execute our sales and marketing strategy with a view to increasing donations and sales and supporting TPPE to meet its goals.
  • Sales & analytical reports: Report on sales, analytics and customer service metrics.

Student Coaching (approx 40%): You will help our students achieve their goals by coaching, supervising, and mentoring students in our TPP Enterprises programming. You will provide input to help us further develop, support, and refine content, delivery, recruitment, retention, and evaluation. As part of this, you will also take on tasks including:

  • Learning & Evaluation: Help observe, measure and evaluate students’ performance and development, and maintain accurate and timely records of students’ progress.
  • Recruitment & Retention: Participate in TPPE efforts for recruitment, enrollment, retention, and performance.

Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of students and the organization. In addition, working within a growing entrepreneurial environment, every staff member is expected to provide support to the broader TPP team as needed.

  • You are a self-starter with the ability to work cooperatively with others and a willingness to both give and receive feedback.
  • You have a minimum of 2 years demonstrated professional experience, including experience working in an entrepreneurial business setting. Experience in ecommerce (eBay preferred), customer service, sales, or marketing would be preferred.
  • You have demonstrated experience in supervising, coaching, teaching, or working with youth, particularly those who are low-income, recent immigrants, and/or face barriers to success.
  • You have an interest in the fast-paced, changing environment of a growing organization and you are comfortable navigating ambiguity.
  • You pay attention to the details. You understand that in a business environment, even the slightest error can lead to customer service challenges.
  • You communicate clearly and you are comfortable communicating with people at all levels of the organization.
  • You have a sense of humor and you like to have fun.
  • You have a driver’s license.
  • You have language skills in Haitian Creole, Portuguese, or Spanish (preferred but not required).
  • You have familiarity with computer hardware and/or software (preferred but not required).

This role also requires the ability to lift large boxes up to 25 lbs.
