THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Residential Counselor II will be responsible for the supervision of the residents and Residential Counselor I’s of the Transitional Living Program (TLP). TLP is a long-term residential program for up to 12 young men and women, ages 18-24. Residents are required to maintain employment, continue their education, meet weekly with a Bridge counselor, and work with case managers on reaching their goals. Residents have access to all of the services at Bridge; and may stay in the TLP for up to two years. The Residential Counselor II will supervise various activities and daily programmatic tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Case Management and Resident Engagement  

  • Ensure that all activities, services and programs through Bridge are conducted in a manner that is sensitive to and shows respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity for all Bridge clients.
  • Actively engages in listening and supporting residents participating in the transitional living program.   
  • Supervise the activities of residents in the program.  
  • Maintain an active caseload. Perform ETO, clinical supervision and record active case notes after each session.
  • Orient new youth to the program which includes giving a facility tour, filling out the appropriate and reviewing the program policies and procedures.
  • Provide residents with advocacy, referrals, crisis intervention and supportive counseling.   
  • Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate service plans with residents.  
  • Ensure residents are following the guidelines and expectations of the program; giving consequences or discharging when appropriate.
  • Monitor and ensure the safety of residents, implementing crisis intervention as necessary. Includes but not limited to: use of deescalating modes of communication/ interaction to ensure resident safety, stability, mental status, and physical health.
  • Perform monthly binder checks of Residential Counselor I cases.
  • Liaison with Program Coordinator on RHY HMIS paperwork.
  • Delegate tasks to Residential Counselor I’s (e.g. chore charts, inventory, outing planning, etc.)
  • Run/Co-lead weekly community groups as needed.
  • Perform on call responsibilities as needed, weekends required.

Administrative Management

  • Attend and participate in all required program meetings including; weekly supervision with Residential Coordinator, weekly counselor’s meetings, leadership team and all staff meetings.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly program staff meetings, quarterly residential all-staff meetings and staff retreats.
  • Supervise and coordinate the PULSE internship program.
  • Daily facilities management, including but not limited to meal prep setup and breakdown, setting up cots for welcome center, and etc.
  • Coordinate recreational activities, events, logistics, materials and supplies.
  • Organize monthly resident calendar, including events, meetings, and deadlines.
  • Assist residents in maintaining household standards of cleanliness.
  • Maintain program statistics and client records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 4+ years of experience working with youth ages 18-24 in one or more of the following areas: housing management, job development, community relations, substance abuse or recreational counseling. Can also include supervised internship experience.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology or any other related degree.  
  • Comfort and confidence working in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Passionate about working with homeless transitional youth population.
  • Collaborative problem solver.
  • Ability to identify and execute effective problem solving strategies. Must possess sound crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with residents, staff, co-workers and supervisor.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritizing skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultural groups.
  • Valid driver's license required and clean driving record. (No car required.)
  • Valid Licenses as required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a CORI, reference, multi-state background and driving record check.
