Business and Youth Development Director (We Sell Possible)

We’re seeking an outstanding leader to serve as TPP’s Business and Youth Development Director of Social Enterprises: We Sell Possible. The Director will be responsible for driving business for our in-house social enterprise focused on the resale of recycled laptops, tablets, and phones; while supporting TPP students’ growth as they learn valuable skills and mindsets working in our Enterprises.

For the past seven years, The Possible Project (TPP) has built, implemented, assessed and refined a model for afterschool programming that provides high school students with an opportunity to: a) create and take products to market, b) partner with local businesses for real-work design and business operations projects, c) apply entrepreneurial and job-readiness skills to our in-house social enterprises, d) access industry and professional mentors who can help hone their skills and networks of supportive adults, and e) provide pathways counseling for post-secondary opportunities.

Through our program, students have access to dream up, design and create businesses that they are passionate about, while ultimately, carrying their experiences to dream up and design a plan for their lives.


TPP Social Enterprises and the We Sell Possible Business serves in hybrid capacity: 1) As a valuable part of our program arc where students who have gone through our Entrepreneurship curriculum, can apply their skills and mindsets as an “employee” of an in-house business that TPP has started and launched; 2) As an earned income contributor to TPP’s financial bottom line. We Sell Possible has cultivated a network of corporate partners to source donated corporate electronics (laptops, tablets, cell phones); we process those donated electronics and sell them online for earned income and for the work experience it provides our students.

As we think about our next five years and beyond, we seek a Director to build on the strong foundation of we have established for We Sell Possible as a business and as a student experience. As a key component of student programming and as an organizational strategy to drive earned income, you will be responsible for helping to shape our student programming and key outcomes, while driving revenue and business KPIs. Your role will be both to supervise social enterprise business and education associates and to provide thought leadership and business management so that We Sell Possible runs like an efficient business – one where our students can feel like true employees and business leaders.

Together, we will work to advance our goals in service of students and communities to demonstrate what is possible through our core values of entrepreneurship, respect, teamwork, resilience, integrity, and fun.


As Director of We Sell Possible you will be responsible for the following threads of work:

  • Business Management and Student Programming
    • We Sell Possible, in collaboration with board members and external advisors, has recently undergone an update to its core business model. As the principal business driver of our We Sell Possible business, you will execute on the current plan to drive quarterly targets and ensure KPIs are met
    • Collaborate with the VP of Enterprises to engage board members and external advisors to continuously innovate upon our business plan and model working to maximize key strategies and drive continued business growth
    • As a steward of our most important outcome: student impact – you will balance your drive for business with a steady allegiance to providing a valuable, experience-rich program model that helps our student constituents build business skills (both soft and technical), an entrepreneurial mindset, resilience, and a sense of agency about how to apply skills learned in TPP to future pursuits
  • Team Leadership and Staff Mentoring
    • Serve as a mentor and leader for a team of business/education associates working to both drive business while working directly with students
    • As a member of TPP’s senior leadership team, collaborate with our entire program team to continuously innovate our student experience, specifically ensuring that TPP Social Enterprise programming fits into our overall program arc and is aligned to overarching programmatic goals
    • Serve as an internal thought leader and embrace a culture of challenging each other to always get better at what we do to drive forward our theory of change
  • Partnership Management
    • Engage, cultivate, and grow key business partnerships that can enhance and grow our core business
    • Engage, cultivate, and grow relationships with comparison organizations in both the Social Enterprises and business ecosystem that could help us grow stronger by understanding at a deep level other hybrid socially driven businesses that are also trying to balance business principals and social good
  • Direct Student Support
    • While you will have a team, being a model for our work is key to the success of your team. Work directly with students to support their growth as individual contributors of our business and as growing professionals
      • Specifically, help students to actualize TPP outcomes of strong skills and mindsets by providing a business experience with high expectations rich with positive and constructive feedback allowing students a nurturing environment to thrive in

This said, we are most likely to be interested in your candidacy if you can demonstrate the majority of the qualifications and experiences listed below:

  • 10 + years of progressive professional experience, with particular emphasis on driving business deliverables
  • Experience leading a team of varying levels of experience
  • Experience or an affinity toward youth development
  • Experience and strong working knowledge of the following: 1. Online Retail 2. Technology Trends 3. Business Development Strategies 4. Cause Marketing
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of young adults, particularly those who are low-income, recent immigrants, and/or face barriers to success; cultural competence is a must
  • Highly organized; ability to build systems
  • Data-driven and enjoys learning ways to improve work
  • Commitment to collaborate with the team and is energized to be a role model for staff and students
  • Commitment to live the values of an organization
