Manager of Internships

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Program Director for Internships, the Manager of Internships will play a key role in a critical aspect of our program model by supporting the delivery of an excellent internship experience for both the fellow and the mentor at the host organization site.  Through the analysis of feedback data from both mentors and students, site visits to fellow placements throughout the semester, and coaching to both students and mentors, the Manager plays a significant role in the overall quality of the Semester in the City (SITC) experience for our key stakeholders.  The ideal candidate will bring strong critical thinking and relationship building skills in order to effectively support students and social sector partners. While the primary role of the Manager will emphasize delivering an excellent internship experience for the mentor and fellow, the Manager will also work on cross-functional teams to support the ongoing growth and expansion of the SITC program. This position will play an important role on the Program Team, while also working cross-functionally with the Operations and Student Recruitment teams to implement key internship related projects throughout the semester.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Internship Site Support and Quality Assurance

  • Conduct 40+ site visits per semester to build relationships and provide on-site support and guidance to fellows and mentors 
  • Disseminate and analyze bi-weekly student and mentor surveys to identify best practices, issue areas and trends across the internship program
  • Provide coaching and support in a “real-time” manner to both Fellows and Mentors on a variety of topics including but not limited to time and project management, self-advocacy, communication in the workplace and more

Internship Cultivation, Matching and Student Support

  • Support the host organization recruitment cultivation and application processes
  • Leverage research skills and networking opportunities to identify host organization placements in high priority mission-areas based on student academic interests
  • Work closely with the Director of Internships on the host organization and fellow matching processes each semester 
  • Coordinate logistics and communication for match notifications
  • Analyze data and trends to anticipate recruitment priorities

Programming and Workshop Facilitation

  • Play a critical role in the implementation (both content and operations) of mentor trainings at the start of each semester
  • Support the implementation of workshops during academic classes as they relate to the internship experience and career development through leading discussions, reviewing assignments and providing individual student coaching as needed
    Serve as a member of the program team to share and respond to feedback and observations of the student internship experience; participate in weekly program team meetings and quarterly retreats

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years job related professional experience
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Interest and experience in coaching and supporting students with a solution and customer service orientation
  • Interest and experience in workshop facilitation and delivery
  • Strong organizational and research skills, excellent with details and follow-up
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people - a team player who can relate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment
  • Embody CFSI’s core values of an optimistic mindset, curiosity, teamwork, purposeful effort, kindness, and generosity
  • Experience with Salesforce a plus

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: 

  • Salary commensurate with experience

College for Social Innovation (CFSI) brings together colleges and social sector organizations to create fully-credited experiential learning opportunities that are meaningful, accessible, and life-changing. Our college students, referred to as Social Innovation Fellows, build skills, a digital portfolio, and a professional network that helps to position them to become the next generation of problem solvers for humanity’s tough challenges. Students are placed in a semester-long internship (400 hours) and also take skill-building and reflection classes twice a week as part of a diverse “Semester in the City” cohort.

College for Social Innovation is now completing a two-year pilot of its Semester in the City program, having enrolled almost 100 students from six colleges and universities and achieved strong initial results. We are looking to further build an innovative and unique educational experience that can add value for students and their home colleges while building a bigger, better, and more diverse talent pipeline for the social sector.

In the next three to five years, we look to create a nationally recognized curriculum and instructional delivery model that generates strong results while growing to serve 350+ students per year and preparing for potential growth beyond Boston. Ultimately, we aim to build a movement to make it common for millions of college students -- representing the full diversity of the nation -- to gain access to careers in the fast-growing social sector. During their Semester in the City, Fellows participate in well-structured and academically-accredited internships where they learn from real-world experiences, build relationships with mentors, and build personal, professional and academic skills.
