THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Adult Education Instructor is responsible for students’ educational goals. The Instructor will carry out professional duties and have responsibility for assigned classes. The Instructor will also be responsible for the day-to-day work, and management of the class and the safety and welfare of the clients, during on-site and off-site activities. The ideal candidate has a passion for working with youth and teaching. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction & Planning

  • Provide academic instruction
  • Create original materials as part of student’s curriculum
  • Prepare and implement daily lesson plans
  • Evaluate students’ progress and provide feedback
  • Assist in curriculum development
  • Provide individualized and classroom instruction for students in all HiSET subjects
  • Assist with student assessment testing and follow up
  • Integrate technology into classroom instruction
  • Maintain a safe classroom environment that promotes learning
  • Develop positive student relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Assess students’ learning needs and adapt to various needs
  • Assist students in developing and achieving individual learning goals

Academic Administration

  • Create and maintain accurate records of student activities and progress
  • Assist in the compilation and communication of department outcomes and metrics
  • Assist students in arranging to sit for the official HiSET test
  • Participate in academic case management with students
  • Communicate and follow up with students
  • Serve as a liaison between Bridge and the Adult Learning Center regarding HiSET testing and other outside agencies
  • Represent Bridge in a professional manner at all outside trainings, events and projects
  • Ensure that all activities, services and programs through Bridge are conducted in a manner that is sensitive to and shows respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity for all Bridge clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in education
  • Two years or more experience working in regular or alternative education classroom, experience with special education strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in one or more of the following areas: homelessness, substance abuse, human services organization
  • Strong communication skills with ability to interact effectively with diverse groups
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented with experience working in ambiguity
  • Must be able to successfully pass a CORI, reference and multi-state background check
