Entrepreneurship Education Associate

THE POSSIBLE PROJECT

For the past eight years, The Possible Project (TPP) has designed, implemented, assessed, and refined a model for after school programming that provides high school students with an opportunity to: a) use the design thinking process in the context of a STEAM-rich learning environment to create and take products to market, b) gain work readiness experience with TPP’s social enterprises, c) provide students with access to industry and professional mentors who can help hone their skills and grow their access to networks of supportive adults, and d) provide pathways counseling for post-secondary opportunities. Through TPP's program, students have access to dream up, design, and create real products for sale in our cutting-edge makerspaces and learn job-readiness skills working in TPP's existing businesses: Made Possible and We Sell Possible. TPP's impact stretches beyond the skills learned by the students who participate; using entrepreneurship as a mechanism for bolstering creativity, fostering perseverance, harnessing optimism, and revealing the possible. The Possible Project places importance on diverse perspectives and understands that they are critical to its success.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Possible Project is looking for an Entrepreneurship Education Associate (EEA) who has the passion and experience required to teach and develop lessons plans for our entrepreneurship curriculum. This role calls for someone who is dedicated to education, youth development, entrepreneurship, and closing the opportunity divide. Under the guidance of TPP’s Entrepreneurship Education Manager, the Entrepreneurship Education Associate will play a pivotal role in day-to-day programming and shaping the overall program design. S/he will be expected to assist with and help to plan all of the logistics required to operate an innovative and effective program. The Possible Project provides students with a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics)-rich environment for exploring ideas and developing products pared with a business- and SEL (social emotional learning)-oriented curricular experience that gives students the tools to excel in and out of the classroom. As such, all Entrepreneurship Education Associates will be required to guide students as they utilize digital fabrication technologies (including laser cutting, 3D printing, vinyl cutting, heat transfer, and CNC milling) and design software including the Adobe Create Cloud suite of tools and professional CAD (computer aided design) software. While no prior experience with digital fabrication or design software is required for this position, prior exposure will be an asset to the candidate.

TPP’s success is dependent on the commitment and strength of its staff. As such, the input and participation by all staff members in various community events, trainings, and fundraisers is critical.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, understand, and deliver the TPP program with active learning experiences in entrepreneurship, STEAM and design thinking, and provide feedback regarding content and delivery
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for learning activities and check for understanding
  • Identify and vary allowable educational methods to meet students' diverse needs
  • Prepare for class activities across sites and makerspaces and use relevant computer, digital fabrication, and design technology to support instruction
  • Recruit and retain TPP students according to organizational requirements for attendance and retention to develop positive relationships and ensure student outcomes driven by organizational goals
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing norms and ensure students’ productivity with the norms and productivity contracts and apply corrective measures when needed
  • Collaborate with colleagues in hybrid organization with focus toward developing students' social and emotional learning, STEAM interest and skills, and job-readiness skills
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and school liaisons regarding student recruiting, retention and success
  • Participate in team, organization and external meetings as planned by manager and executive team for programmatic, fundraising and team-building needs
  • Mentor and advise students and teams as they prepare for Milestone Events (e.g. pitch panels and marketplaces) and help recruit and train volunteers
  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance and maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress
  • Administer formative and summative assessments (e.g., surveys, interviews, and rubrics)
  • Participate in professional development workshops as provided through TPP University and stay current with developments in educational content, teaching methods and share learnings
  • Develop, maintain, and apply working knowledge of the design thinking process, digital fabrication technology, and design software offered through our program
  • Take on activities as needed to ensure TPP mission and strategic plans are achieved and that TPP students are successfully mentored, coached and taught by caring adults


QUALIFICATIONS & MINDSETS

While there is no perfect resume, we will likely be most interested in your application if you fulfill most or all of the following:

  • You have sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of youth, particularly those who are low-income, recent immigrants, and/or face barriers to success;
  • You have interest and/or experience in entrepreneurship and business;
  • You have 1-2 years of teaching experience (preferred);
  • You are highly organized;
  • You have excellent interpersonal, written, oral, and computer skills;
  • You are action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and possess an innovative approach to work;
  • You have sincere interest and motivation to work collaboratively with an energized, committed and creative team;
  • You are a true team player, with an upbeat personality and a good sense of humor;
  • You anticipate and identify problems, putting forward solutions that are creative, innovative, and flexible;
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree (preferred but not required);
  • You possess prior experience with digital fabrication technologies and/or digital design software (preferred but not required); and
  • You have language skills in Haitian Creole, Portuguese, or Spanish (preferred but not required).
