Senior Accountant

College Bound Dorchester (CBD) is looking for highly motivated, resourceful and talented individuals to join our growing team. College Bound is a Boston-based nonprofit leader in gang-intervention, equipping gang-involved young people (Core Influencers) with the attitude, skills and experience to graduate from college and become positive leaders in their community. CBD is a $5.4M organization poised to be a national model to use education to redirect the entrepreneurial, networking and leadership skills of gang-members from violence (and recidivism) to drive positive change that shifts social norms in our neighborhoods – empowering Core Influencers to become the solution to the chronic cycles of violence and poverty they have helped drive.

The Opportunity

College Bound Dorchester is looking for a Senior Accountant candidate to ensure the integrity of accounting and company records. This position performs various accounting and financial duties with a focus on General Ledger entries and reconciliations; Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable postings; fixed asset tracking; and assisting with financial statement preparation, tax forms, budgets, and forecasts. The Senior Accountant reports to the Director of Finance. 


Financial Management

  • Drive accurate and on-time processing of all College Bound Dorchester’s accounting functions including: general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes
  • Perform monthly, quarterly and annual accounting activities including reconciliations of bank and credit card accounts, and reviewing financial reports/support as necessary;
  • Assist with coordination and completion of the annual financial audit, A-133, and all required state and federal filing and reporting.  
  • Help manage day-to-day accounting operations 

Financial Reporting

  • Ensuring College Bound Dorchester meets its tax obligations and reporting requirements
  • Analyze and report on financial status including income statement variances, communicating financial results to management, budget preparation and analysis
  • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective action
  • Implement and monitor the month, quarter and year-end closeout accounting schedules
  • Develop monthly and quarterly accounting reports for the management and executive teams
  • Work with Director of Finance to create reports for leadership team, Board of Directors, and philanthropic and municipal funders to drive informed financial decisions

Financial Controls & Compliance

  • Assist with the creation of new internal accounting policies and maintenance of existing policies
  • Enforce procedures for authorization and approval, as well as proper documentation and physical security of assets
  • Monitor emerging technology to determine ways to automate the accounting process without sacrificing accuracy and accountability
  • Help oversee taxes and compliance with State and Federal regulations

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required with preferred emphasis in Accounting and Finance
  • 5+ years of accounting experience with demonstrated progressive work responsibility, non-profit experience preferred
  • Demonstrated skill with month-end and year-end closing, budgeting, and forecasting 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and with electronic accounting systems (Blackbaud and ADP experience preferred)
  • Solid experience managing year-end audit processes, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll
  • Superior analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills to drive data-to-action analysis and seek continuous improvement systems and processes
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner and in collaboration with others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent follow through and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience and desire to work in a mission driven organization undergoing change and growth
