Job Description: Transitional Day Program Counselor
Hours: Full Time: Monday – Friday
Job Site: West Street
Reports To: Transitional Day Program Coordinator
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt


The Transitional Day Program (TDP) is a drop-in center for homeless youth 18-24 years old in Boston. Youth utilizing the TDP are typically sleeping outside, staying an emergency shelters or couch surfing. The TDP offers survival services (food, showers, laundry, & clothing) as well as intensive case management and support services to help youth move beyond the streets into safe and stable housing. The TDP Counselor is responsible for overseeing the program milieu, building therapeutic rapport with youth and providing case management services to youth using the program.



  • Drop-in
    • Respond to drop-in clients including: breakfast, lunch, showers, laundry, computer games, field trips, outings, and physical exercise
    • Provide crisis intervention
  • Provide regular skills-building activities
  • Provide expressive based groups, arts & crafts, mindfulness, sensory coping groups,
  • Provide educational and job development referral
  • Assist homeless youth in obtaining, housing, mental healthcare, and substance abuse services
  • Provide advocacy services


  • Compile statistics as required
  • Participate in weekly program meetings
  • Participate in quarterly all staff meeting

Public Relations

  • Serve as a liaison between street youth and establish agencies
  • Youth advocate


  • Ensure that all activities, services and programs through Bridge are conducted in a manner that is sensitive to and shows respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity for all Bridge clients


  • Other related tasks as required/requested
  • A Bachelors Degree strongly preferred or minimum two year experience working with young adults
  • Previous experience/knowledge in the following areas
    • Housing search/placement
    • Substance abuse
    • Job development
    • Community relations
    • Recreational counseling
  • Continuous clean driver’s record (car not required
  • Valid Licenses as required
  • Supervision with Transitional Day Program Coordinator
  • Consultation with Clinical Consultant
