Awake Overnight Emergency Residence Counselor II

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Awake Overnight Counselor will be responsible for the supervision of all clients during the overnight shift at the Emergency Residence Program. Maintaining a safe and positive environment and ensure clients well-being. Overnight Counselors need to be alert and able to respond to any issues that may arise. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Counseling & Client Services

  • Familiarize new youth with the program
  • Provide clients with advocacy, referrals, crisis intervention and supportive counseling appointments
  • Ensure clients are following the guidelines and expectations of the program
  • Monitor client behaviors to ensure the safety of themselves and those around them through direct client/ staff interaction
  • Prepare clients for independent living through various life skills activities.  Which includes cooking, socialization, and group interaction
  • Ensure that all activities, services and programs through Bridge are conducted in a manner that is sensitive to and shows respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity for all Bridge clients  
  • Participate in monthly all staff meeting 
  • Supervision with Emergency Residence Program Coordinator 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 2 or more years experience working with adolescents
  • Previous experience in one or more of the following areas: homelessness, substance abuse, human services organization
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Strong communication skills with ability to interact effectively with diverse groups
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented with experience working in ambiguity
  • Valid  Massachusetts driver’s license and continuous clean driver’s record

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and work at a computer, and must be able to lift/move weight up to 25lbs. Employee is also required to accept incoming calls and must be able to hear and speak. Must have visual acuity to read and draft reports, memos, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for the incumbent perform the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently. The noise level is quiet to moderate; non-smoking environment.
