Building Impact (BI) transforms corporate volunteering by connecting companies with meaningful community service opportunities that address real nonprofit needs. We partner with organizations to design volunteer programs that create authentic impact while strengthening workplace teams and community connections.

Our Reach: Since our founding in Boston, we have grown to engage 20,000+ volunteers across 100+ organizations in all fifty states. In 2024 alone, we partnered with 58 companies to mobilize 11,000 volunteers, generating $2.4 million in community impact.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Building Impact seeks a visionary leader excited to capitalize on opportunities for growth and innovation, skilled in driving organizational success, and dedicated to empowering a highly committed staff. The CEO is based at the organization’s offices in Boston, MA, and has overall management responsibility for a mission-driven organization with a $2 million annual budget and 12 employees.
Combining inspirational leadership and sophisticated management abilities, the CEO will advance the organization in terms of culture, capability, processes, and impact. They will be responsible for supporting the implementation of Building Impact’s business development strategy by serving as the primary external face and voice of the organization and modeling a workplace culture defined by transparency and commitment to mission. While working closely with the organization’s leadership team, the CEO will drive towards innovation and ensure that Building Impact is continually well-equipped to advance its transformative mission.
The CEO reports to Building Impact’s Board of Directors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
Strengthen and execute Building Impact's vision and strategy
Define measurable business goals and implement quarterly progress assessments
Serve as primary spokesperson and public face of Building Impact
Position BI as an industry thought leader through speaking engagements, podcast appearances, and quarterly published content
Business Development & Partnership Management
Lead comprehensive business development strategy focused on sustainable revenue growth
Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with corporate partners, ensuring contract renewals and expansion opportunities
Develop new nonprofit partnerships that align with organizational capacity and mission impact
Influence sector conversations around corporate volunteering, nonprofit capacity building, and community impact measurement
Team Leadership & People Management
Lead and develop a team of 12 employees through direct and indirect management relationships
Foster a collaborative, transparent workplace culture aligned with organizational mission
Oversee complete employee lifecycle: hiring, onboarding, performance management, and bi-annual reviews
Champion professional development and staff retention strategies
Financial & Operational Management
- Manage organizational budget development and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
Maintain relationships with outsourced accounting partners and ensure financial compliance
Establish and implement organizational systems, policies, and operational procedures
Oversee vendor relationships, facilities management, insurance, risk management, and IT infrastructure
Board Governance & Engagement
Attend all Board meetings and deliver comprehensive reports on organizational performance, strategic progress, and operational updates
Provide timely, accurate information to Board members on risks, opportunities, and key decisions requiring governance oversight
Cultivate strong working relationships with Board members and support their ongoing engagement with Building Impact's mission
Collaborate with Board leadership on member recruitment and development to strengthen organizational governance and expand strategic reach
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

That said, we are most likely to be interested in your candidacy if you can demonstrate the majority of the qualifications and experiences listed below:
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior leadership position at a small and growing non-profit or social impact company. Direct experience leading a dynamic nonprofit is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in general operations and organizational leadership across multiple functional areas (i.e. business development, programs, and operations).
Demonstrated experience managing people at different stages of life and career. Strong commitment to the professional development of staff; successful track record of recruiting and retaining a diverse team.
Dedicated to service and social impact, and can speak concretely and passionately about why our work matters.
The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at once while maintaining a strategic focus on the business.
A proven record of building relationships and growing a business with strategic purpose.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Experience as a presenter/facilitator to small and large groups, and a desire to continue to be engaged with stakeholders in this way.
Strategic vision and agility - demonstrated ability to think strategically, foresee trends, and adapt the organizational plan in response to changing external realities
COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & LOCATION
This is a full-time position based in Boston. Generous benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, 401k eligibility with a 4% contribution, robust paid time off (12 paid federal holidays, 20 paid vacation days, 3 paid volunteer days, 5 paid sick days/year). All health benefits take effect on the first day of employment. We offer free team lunches once per week during our time together in the office. Building Impact currently requires in-person work at our Boston office or with clients at least two days per week. The compensation range for the role is $175,000-$185,000 with performance-based bonus opportunities.
