One Family Inc. Senior Director of Development
One Family’s mission is to prevent homelessness and break the cycle of family poverty in Massachusetts by promoting pathways to economic independence. Founded in 2000 in response to the growing crisis of family homelessness, One Family believes that education and career success are the foundations of lasting housing stability. This work is especially urgent in Massachusetts, where residents face some of the highest living costs in the country. Through two direct-service programs, the organization helps families at risk of or experiencing homelessness overcome barriers to higher education and family-sustaining careers, supporting their path toward lasting economic and housing stability. One Family pairs this work with public policy advocacy, engaging program participants on its Advocacy Team to use their lived experience to drive systemic change. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a rare opportunity to lead philanthropy at an organization with a strong, established funding base and a proven model of impact. Building on this solid foundation, One Family is seeking a strategic leader with a demonstrated ability to bring in new revenue and drive significant growth. As a key member of the executive team, the Senior Director of Development will help set organization-wide strategy alongside senior leadership, build and execute a bold revenue strategy, expand One Family's funding base, elevate its brand, and deepen donor relationships, at a pivotal moment in the organization's growth.
One Family enters this moment from a position of strength: a $2.7 million budget for FY2027, anchored by a solid base of philanthropic support and a $1.7 million philanthropic revenue target. You will have the resources, stability, and leadership support to build on this foundation—pursuing new funding streams, building strategic partnerships, and leading a talented three-person team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Director of Development will play a key role in the organization by focusing on One Family’s future development and direction, including:
Strategic Revenue Leadership
Partner with the Executive Director and executive team to set organization-wide strategy, ensuring development goals align with One Family's long-term vision and priorities
Develop and execute a multi-year philanthropic growth strategy spanning corporate, foundation, and individual giving
Use fundraising data, pipeline analysis, and historical performance to actively manage revenue: setting realistic targets, prioritizing opportunities, allocating resources, and course-correcting when performance is off track
Develop strategies to engage and acquire new donors and funders across individual, corporate, and foundation giving
Fundraising & Philanthropy
Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, board members, foundations, and corporate funders, including high five- and six-figure gifts and grants
Serve on the Board's Development Committee and act as a strategic partner to the Executive Director
Expand the individual giving program through major donor cultivation, appeals, and creative donor engagement
Champion ethical storytelling that centers the lived experiences of the families One Family serves
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing three-person development team, setting clear expectations and accountability and fostering a culture of learning, ownership, and results
Champion a culture of philanthropy across the organization, ensuring development work aligns with One Family's mission and values
QUALIFICATIONS
We take a broad view of experience and welcome applicants whose paths do not follow a traditional trajectory. Successful candidates will be genuinely motivated by One Family's mission and able to translate that mission into compelling fundraising and donor engagement. We are most likely to be excited by your candidacy if you bring:
Demonstrated experience leading a development function at the Director, Senior Director, or equivalent level—or comparable scope, ownership, and results, even without the formal title
A quantifiable track record of personally driving significant philanthropic revenue growth over multiple years, with clear ownership of a development function and its results
Success in securing high five- and six-figure gifts and grants across individual, foundation, and corporate giving
Comfort using data and owning reporting: pipeline analysis, revenue forecasting, and fundraising dashboards to guide strategy and board reporting
Proven success both acquiring new donors and funders and retaining, renewing, and expanding existing relationships, with the ability to quantify revenue growth driven over multiple years
Experience recruiting, developing, retaining, and strengthening a high-performing development team, with clear expectations and accountability
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to represent an organization across diverse stakeholders
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously
