Director of Development

College Bound Dorchester is looking for highly motivated, resourceful and talented individuals to join our growing team. College Bound is a Boston-based nonprofit leader whose work is focused on supporting gang-involved youth and young adults to leverage their power and brilliance to change communities. College Bound is a $4M organization poised to be a national model for using education to end generational urban poverty and violence through its Uncornered solution. 

THE OPPORTUNITY:

College Bound Dorchester is seeking a Director of Development to oversee our fundraising activities, including grant writing, donor relations, events and partnerships. The Director of Development will secure annual financial resources in support of College Bound’s mission, operations, & strategic initiatives. The Development Director is a key ambassador for Boston Uncornered, playing an integral role in advancing the organization through relationship building and donor engagement. Special emphasis will be placed on stewarding a robust corporate/foundation relations portfolio and developing a plan for individual giving while managing a team of two to three individuals. The ideal candidate is a consummate relationship manager, communicator, and fundraiser with experience building and managing a comprehensive philanthropy program; a person with a passion for the mission who is inspired be a part of a growing movement to end generational urban poverty.

Primary Responsibilities: 

Development Operations & Management

  • Plan and direct administrative, operational, and financial aspects of the development and communications team
  • Serve as a people manager for development & communications team, with additional interns/contractors as needed
  • Leverage data to ensure institutional giving and grant writing efficiency and effectiveness
  • Collaborate with program and senior staff in the preparation and presentation of the organization in prospect relationships, stewardship activities, and proposal development, management and reporting
  • Oversee production of annual fundraising gala working with consultants, vendors, volunteers and staff. 

Donor Relations

  • Manage/grow a portfolio of corporate, foundation, government and individual donors with an annual goal of $4M+ and an eye toward sustainable multi-year giving
  • Cultivate, steward, solicit, and close major gifts up to the $25,000 level
  • Staff local Board of Directors’ development committee 

Foundation Relations & Grants Management 

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with Boston-area foundations that invest in education, youth development and disruptive solutions.
  • Steward relationships with existing foundation partners, securing and coordinating pertinent information and meetings, and developing effective relationships with potential supporters
  • Establish and implement systems to ensure effective grant-writing processes, including application and reporting tracking, producing creative collateral, and compiling reports

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

This said we are most likely to be interested in your candidacy if you can demonstrate the majority of the qualifications and experiences listed below:

  • BA/BS and 5+ years’ progressively responsible experience in fundraising, preferably managing a new or growing programs
  • Established track record in fundraising including individual giving, corporate and foundation relations, events, peer-to-peer fundraising 
  • Strategist with a consistent record of creating, developing and executing successful multi-channel fundraising programs, particularly those with institutional funders and high net worth individuals
  • Experience tracking communication and donor activity in a CRM, preferably Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge
  • Strong analytical skills and use of data to drive fundraising and partnership decisions and forecasting
  • Ability to build, cultivate and bring to bear social relationships to influence positive outcomes
  • Excellent knowledge of philanthropic marketplace and history of building strong partnerships
  • Ability to compel others to action as a key storyteller of our path to impact, priorities for growth and ongoing contributions to the communities we serve
  • Ability to advocate to the Board and partners for key resources that support our fundraising program and plans for organizational expansion
  • Knowledge of the Greater Boston business and philanthropic communities
